Name in Chinese and pin yin: Yu Lou Dian Cui 玉樓點翠

Notable characteristics: White petals suffused with pink at the base. Spreading plant. Long, somewhat sparse foliage. Vigorous grower. Flowers are so large that they nod to the side.

Cultivar group, area of origin: Central Plains cultivar group, this cultivar was bread by the Zhaolou peony garden in Heze and released in 1966. 

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and spreading habit, grows to 2.5' tall and 4' wide.

Flower form and size: Crown double form, 8".

Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet.

Bloom time: Mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the second or third week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 5-9.

Plant size: 1 year old grafted tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a graft root. The plant may or may not have some of its own roots already developed. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
