Paeonia, 'Cardinal's Robe' hybrid herbaceous peony
Notable characteristics: Shining scarlet, brilliant red flowers with a slight orange tinge. Grows to only a little over 2' tall and wide. Strong stems, excellent for the landscape. Immaculate drainage is required to grow this peony.
Cultivar group, hybridizer, year introduced: Hybrid, Saunders, 1940.
Growth habit and size at maturity: Grows to 26" tall and 26" wide.
Flower form and size: Double, 6-7", borne on strong stems.
Flower fragrance: Lightly scented.
Bloom time: Early-season herbaceous peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first or second week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 4-5 'eyes' or buds with proportional roots. This size plant will most likely flower its first season.
