Name in Japanese & romaji: 神樂獅子 Kagurajishi

Notable characteristics: Reddish pink blossoms are neatly displayed above the foliage. The inner petals of the flowers are asymmetrical (shishizaki), a trait for which some Japanese tree peonies are selected. Beautiful long leaves.

This peony is named after the lion dance preformed as part of the Kagura, a form of Shinto theatrical dance.

Growth habit and size at maturity : Upright and semi-spreading, grows to 3' tall and 3' wide.

Flower form and size: Heavy semi-double to full double blossoms to 8-9".

Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, slight.

Bloom time: Mid-season Japanese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
