Cultivar description: Know as 'Pai Li' or 'Bai Li' 白梨 this ancient variety of Chinese pear has been grown in the Beijing area for centuries. The fruits are large, rounded and greenish yellow. The flesh is sweet and juicy. The fruits are long keepers that can store into winter. The trees are vigorous, all around an excellent pear. Quite resistant to fire blight.
Site requirements: Full sun location. Asian pears will grow in a range of soil types provided the planting location is well drained. Soil pH of 6.5 is ideal. Trees will grow to 25' tall at maturity.
Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9.
