Name in Chinese and pinyin: 灰鶴 Hui He
Notable characteristics: Single form flowers, dark pink petals stippled with tones of blue and violet. Blossoms are 6-7‘’ with a good fragrance. Vigorous grower.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Bred by the famous Chen Dezhong of the Peace Peony Garden in Gansu Province in Northwest China. Registered in 1994.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): 5' tall and 4' wide at maturity.
Flower form and size: Single blossoms are 6-7".
Flower fragrance: Dense, spicy-sweet.
Bloom time: Mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old grafted tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a graft root. The plant may or may not have some of its own roots already developed. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
