Paeonia, 'Flambeau' hybrid tree peony
Notable characteristics: This exceedingly rare historic tree peony was one of the first large blossomed hybrids. It was bred by the great Victor Lemoine, at his celebrated nursery in Lorraine. Large reddish orange flowers are a tight whirl of fragrant petals.
Flowers are produced on short stems and nod to the side. This defect is overcome by proper siting in the garden. This cultivar is ideally planted in an elevated location where the flowers can be viewed from below. Its compact habit and late flowering time are of additional interest to the imaginative gardener.
