Cricket Hill Garden
Paeonia, 'Anelise' tree peony
Notable characteristics: Renown tree peony breeder Franklin Chow gave us several white tree peony seedlings many years ago. He promised that all would prove to be “good ones” and this prediction has been borne out over time. One of these plants, however, stood out for its exceptionally vigorous growth and enormous flowers. The unfurling buds are fist sized, and the flowers head sized! Fully double blossoms are pure white with the rockii parentage belied by the dark flares at the center.
Hybridizer: Franklin Chow/Cricket Hill Garden, to be registered with the American Peony Society in 2024.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and spreading. Flowers held well above the foliage. Grows to 4' tall and 3' wide.
Flower form and size: Semi-double, 8".
Flower fragrance: Light and sweet.
Bloom time: Early tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring. 2 yr.old grafted plants are larger and will likely bloom in their first year.
