Paeonia, 'Antigone' hybrid tree peony
Notable characteristics: Petals are gold and cream, flushed with pink. Foliage is light green and waxy, good substance and vigor, reliable. Good stem strength, grows 4 ft. in height, blooms late May.
This hybrid tree peony was bred by Nassos Daphnis, a talented artist who left an indelible mark on the worlds of horticulture and painting.
Cultivar group, hybridizer: P. lutea hybrid, Daphnis, 1995.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and spreading, to 4' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Single, 6-7".
Flower fragrance: Very light.
Bloom time: Late-season hybrid tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stems, with offshoot buds, and a well developed root system. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
