Paeonia rockii, 'Silver Waves on Lake Qinghai'

Notable characteristics: This selection of P. rockii comes from the Chen Dezhong's famous Peace Peony Garden in Heping, Gansu. Quite similar to the straight species this selection is somewhat dwarf. 

Hybridizer, year introduced: Chen Dezhong selection

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and spreading habit, to 4' tall and 4' wide.

Flower form and size: Single, 4-6". 

Flower fragrance: Rich, spicy. 

Bloom time: Mid-season Chinese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in mid to late May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 1 year old grafted tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a graft root. The plant may or may not have some of its own roots already developed. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
