Salix gracilistyla, ‘Mt Aso’
Variety description: This later winter to early spring blooming willow was selected in Japan for the cut flower trade. Large pink catkins hold up well as cut stems. If left on the plant, they turn black and gold after about two weeks. Blooms in early March in zone 6 Connecticut. Silver grey green foliage in summer.
Site requirements: Prefers evenly moist soil and full sun. In areas without consistent rainfall, regular watering is necessary.
Size at maturity: Multi-stemmed shrub reaches 6' tall and wide.
Pests and diseases: No insects or diseases are of concern.
Hardiness: Will grow in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: Well rooted plant, about 12-18" tall with a well developed root system. Field grown, ships bare root.
